The one piece OEM 4L80E stamped steel apply/release spring retainer is an accident waiting to happen. The flimsy retainer eventually deforms and bows out, then contacts the rotating direct clutch housing, either failing the housing or the intermediate clutch plates. Either way it’s a loser. This kit includes the sturdy OEM TH400 stamped steel apply/return spring retainer and a new set of 12 high rate intermediate clutch apply/release springs to replace the failure prone one piece OEM assembly.
